OVERVIEW
Routes to Ride
The routes offered on these pages are simply some of my favourites. Having cycled extensively throughout South East Wales, I thought it worthwhile to share some of the exceptional cycling opportunites this region has to offer.

These routes are designed for individuals just starting to cycle or families with small children interested in safe, traffic-free cycling. The paths are separated from roadways on smooth, paved surfaces, and generally follow secluded tracks through nature reserves or parks. Overall distances are quite short and range from 2 to 10 miles (round-trip). ► View routes

Because of the unique landscape and large number of NCN Routes in South East Wales, it's possible to often connect these routes into longer, circular rides. These combined routes often provide extended traffic-free riding, but with increased mileage, elevation gain, and longer journey times. (Some routes may include sections with short on-road travel.) Distances range from 20 to 40 miles. ► View routes

The advanced level of cycling routes expands upon our intermediate level rides into full-day cycle tours. These rides still rely upon NCN Routes; however, most of the travel will be on-road. They are designed for experienced cyclists capable of extended distances combined with greater elevation gain. Generally, these routes will have you out for the entire day. Distances range from 35 to over 100 miles. ► View routes

The National Cycle Network - REGIONAL ROUTES
We've been busy compiling a list of all the routes of the National Cycle Network in South East Wales. As we develop this list, we're also creating pages to briefly outline each specific route, including interactive maps, printable .pdf files, as well as .gpx files for download. It's a big task that we'll be working on for the next few year, but you can see our start now.► View routes

The National Cycle Network
At the core of most all of the routes described in this section is the National Cycle Network. This extensive UK-wide network consists of nearly 12,000 miles of signposted paths and routes for walking, cycling, and exploring. The shear number of routes is remarkable for such a small area and a testament to the efforts of it's charitable caretaker; Sustrans.
NCN Routes primarily focuses on traffic-free or low-traffic paths designed for families with children or beginner cyclists. Generally these routes follow repurposed rail lines, tow paths, and/or quiet lanes in order to limit contact with traffic; however, some routes may involve sections on roadways which may only be suitable for experienced cyclists.

Note to Readers: Examine the provided online maps closely to understand conditions prior to your ride. Each route listed includes a colour-coded map indicating specific terrain along with the distance(s). When considering difficulty; remember elevations +/- gains are equally important to distances. Printing the included .pdf maps and/or downloading the GPS file is highly recommeded.
